Her clothes have adorned some of the world’s most famous women - from Sofia Loren to Elizabeth Taylor and from Paola of Liege to Jackie Kennedy.
In 1959 she received the Filene’s Talent Award, one of the most prestigious awards given by the American press, as best designer of the year.
Her most famous creation is the “palazzo pyjama”, which was shown at Pitti in 1960 and became a sort of uniform for the jet-set in the early Seventies. In fact, some of her “palazzo pyjamas” are displayed in the world’s most important museums, including the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Costume Museum in St. Petersburg in Russia, where the Princess has also held numerous catwalk shows.
Ten years later, she was the first to create a cosmetics line alongside her sartorial creations. Her collections continued to enjoy huge success and she soon became a leading international figure in the world of fashion. To crown her career and as a recognition of her talent, in January 2006 an exhibition of her most famous creations - entitled “Irene Galitzine, the Princess of Fashion” - was held in Rome.
